Supergirl TV Series Release Date and News: Arrow and the Flash Executive producer Developing Supergirl TV Series
Warner Bros. TV is reportedly in the early development stages of a Supergirl television series.
Deadline reports that executive producer Greg Berlanti whose most notable works are co-creating The CW's "Arrow" and the upcoming spin-off "The Flash" has been reported to be developing a television series adaptation of Supergirl. Berlanti is said to be teaming up with writer Ali Adler, whom he has worked with before on his ABC series No Ordinary Family. Geoff Johns who also did work for Arrow and The Flash will also be involved, but it is still unclear as to what role he might take on the upcoming project. Warner Bros. has all the DC comics TV rights and is not surprising that they're trying to cash in on the sudden popularity of superheroes in the small screen.
Marvel has a pretty solid line-up of TV series with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. starting its 2nd season on September 23 on ABC, Agent Carter is set to premiere sometime next year, Daredevil which is currently in production, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist are all confirmed to be in its pre-production stages and is set to premiere on Netflix. Marvel might be having trouble in keeping some of their properties to themselves, but they have proven to be a powerhouse of entertainment ever since The Avengers hit the silver screen, and they seem to be capitalizing on it in the small screen.
The Supergirl TV show has yet to be pitched to other networks and might not be part of the same universe as Arrow and The Flash. If that's the case, then the series itself will have an opportunity to create its own universe and expand from there. DC Comics' properties are all under Warner Bros. but it seems like they are going to do their own thing and not have a shared universe, which is frustrating to a lot of fans.
Supergirl is mostly known to be Kara Jor El, Superman's cousin who also has all his abilities as well as the same weakness to Kryptonite. The heroine was created by Otto Binder and designed by Al Plastino back in 1959.
