Leaked Audio Appears to Show Michael Tait Apologizing to Alleged Victim

Michael Tait

Christian media outlet ChurchLeaders has published a report detailing a leaked audio recording allegedly capturing former DC Talk and Newsboys frontman Michael Tait apologizing to a man who has accused him of sexual misconduct.

According to the report, the recording features a phone conversation between Tait and an individual identified as a touring musician, who claims he was groomed and sexually assaulted by Tait beginning in the early 2000s. In the alleged audio, Tait can be heard expressing remorse for "inappropriately" touching the man and stating that such behavior "would never happen again."

The accuser asserts that the abuse began when he was 19 years old and continued over several years, describing a pattern of manipulation and emotional control. The ChurchLeaders article further notes that these claims follow a series of other public allegations of misconduct against Tait that surfaced earlier this year, shortly after his departure from the Newsboys was announced in January 2025.

At present, no formal charges have been filed, and neither Tait nor his representatives have issued a public statement in response to the newly surfaced audio. The authenticity of the recording has not yet been independently verified.

Tait, known for his decades-long influence in Christian contemporary music, first rose to prominence as a member of the Grammy-winning trio DC Talk, before joining the Newsboys in 2009. His sudden exit from the band earlier this year came amid unconfirmed reports of personal and professional turmoil.

Industry observers and faith community leaders are urging transparency, accountability, and prayer for all parties involved as the situation develops.

Further updates will be released as more verified information becomes available.
