iPad Air 2 Release Date: Everything you need to know about the World's thinnest tablet
In the Apple's Special Launch event last October 16, they unveiled their latest version of iPad, the world's thinnest iPad, the iPad Air 2. In this report, we'll get you updated about the details of the new iPad Air 2; from its specs, design, features, size and more.
The new iPad Air 2 was released to the journalists at Apple's Cupertino Campus in California last October 16, together with some European Writers in Berlin. In the event, they used the slogan "It's been way too long." Apple Company confirmed that the public can now pre-order the iPad Air 2 starting today October 17, and then they will start the shipping of the new tablet by the end of next week. It's advisable to do a pre-order since the demand for Apple iPad launches are always high and the supply often on the low side.
Now let's get to details of the iPad Air 2. At 6.1mm thick, the iPad Air 2 is the slenderest tablet Apple has yet produced, and significantly thinner than the 7.5mm-thick iPad Air 1. Apple trimmed off some of the iPad's disgusting obesity by bringing the interior plates more closely together, resulting to reduced internal reflections in the device.
It also has a new processor chip, the A8X - a souped-up version of the iPhone 6's A8. This has three billion transistors and according to Apple, it offers 40 percent faster performance in most apps and up to 2.5x graphics performance.
Apple pointed out that the new iPad Air 2 is capable of up to 12 times faster processing than the iPad 1, and a staggering 180 times faster graphics. That's amazing! Really!
Apple is also proud to announce the anti-reflective coating of the new iPad Air 2. The company said this is something that hasn't been done on a tablet before, and will reduce reflections by 56 percent. This one is a really nice upgrade.
Apple has upped the megapixel count on the iPad Air's rear-facing, the iSight camera, from 5Mp to 8Mp, which should please the spec-obsessed. But more useful may prove the new camera features that have come to iPad: burst mode, panoramas (up to 43Mp), slo-mo, timer mode and time-lapse.
On the other hand, the FaceTime HD, the tablet's front-facing camera, retains the same with 1.2Mp rating, but Apple said it has improved the sensor and made the pixels bigger for better low-light performance.
The Touch ID Fingerprint Sensor is also in. This conceivably unlock the possibilities of Apple Pay, although without NFC, iPad Air 2 will only be limited to online payments rather that in-store ones.
Here are the iPad Air 2's technical specs:
For the retina display, it has 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit MultiTouch display with IPS technology; 2048 x 1536 resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi); Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating; Fully laminated display; Antireflective coating. The tablet has 16GB, 64GB or 128GB of storage. It has Panoramas up to 43Mp, also packed with Burst mode, Timelapse, Slo-mo video and Lightning connector.
The new iPad Air 2 will be available in three colour options: Silver, Space Grey and a new Gold option.
A new leak last October 15, makes it look like the new 6th iPad version, is indeed going to arrive today, 16 October, the day that Apple is holding special events in San Francisco and Berlin which journalists. According to The Verge, Apple let the news slip when it accidentally updated a user guide to the new iPad Air - and iPad mini - on the iTunes Store.
Better do your pre-order now, before it's too late. We can assure you that you will have the best iPad ever!
