Will.i.am. Smartwatch News: Is It The Rival, Apple Was Not Able to Predict?
If you think that the tech-showdown is just between tech-giants Apple and Samsung, you better think again, because a band front man and tech-entrepreneur is about to join in the technology’s royal rumble.
The Black Eyed Peas lead face and director in Intel, Will.i.am. will be launching his own music smart watch on Thurday, October 16, in San Francisco, This is Money reported. The newest watch, that will have its face-to-face battle with Apple Watch will have a music service supplied by 7digital, a UK based company.
According to Will.i.am, the smartwatch will have Bluetooth a capability for wireless internet connection and unlike its direct rivals Apple Watch and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear, Will.i.am’s watch is a standalone gadget that will not need a smartphone anymore. This capability is said to be the new device’s edge among its competitor.
Twiiter, Facebook and Instagram will also be the major featured apps installed in the Android-powered smartwatch. In terms of design, Will.I.am.’s watch will have a curved screen, and not a flat screen present in current smartwatches.
Aside from its interesting and unique feature, the main edge of Will.i.am’s smartwatch is its music storage capability. Yahoo recently reported that the Voice judge and the U.K. London stock-market-listed company, 7digital, have already closed deals with major record labels.
The agreement assured the music company that the artist’s and their rights will be treated equally. This initial step made by the two partnering company could give the music smartwatch ‘the edge over other music services which have experienced problems over different rates offered to independent music producers and big labels’.
The smartwatch, that will update its music storage once connected with the internet, was first demonstrated by Will.i.am on “Alan Carr: Chatty Man” last Friday and he repeated the short intro of his watch on The Voice last Saturday, according to the Telegraph.
The rapper and tech-buff showed how the ‘black plastic cuff with a small screen’ smartwatch operates in itself without the aid of smartphone. “There’s a lot of smartwatches that need a phone, mine doesn’t need a phone. This is a phone,” Will.i.am. said to Carr.
Will.i.am also showed the music capabilities of his newest gadget and its ability to make a call, but his demo does not work as he wanted it to be which indicates that his smartwatch’s calling features will need more furnishing.
There are still no concrete details about the smartwatch release but Will.i.am. has tweeted that it will be available on July next year. In case this gadget will be commercially available, this will be the singer’s second gadget. I.am+foto.sosho, a camera and keyboard accessory for iPhone, was launched by Will.i.am. last 2012.
