'True Detective' Season 2: Are the New Characters and Setting Worth the Gamble?
'True Detective' Season 2: Are the New Characters and Setting Worth the Gamble?
The month of October stirs high anticipation among the fans of HBO's highly acclaimed series 'True Detective.' But aside from the excitement, uncertainties and doubts also hang above the fans like a dark cloud as they wonder if the changes in the casting and setting will be worth the gamble.
With the successful eight-episode run of its first season, it is only understandable that viewers set high expectations for the second season, especially after the exceptional performances of its lead actors, Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey.
But with the report on the impending major changes in the format of 'True Detective' Season 2, fans are left with different questions as to whether or not this prospect will be bitter or sweet, or a combination of both.
It is said that the second season of the series will be taking on an anthological structure, and this means that viewers can expect for an entirely different story about completely different characters. More than that, Cary Fukunaga, the director of season 1, will not be all alone this time as the second season will have several directors, on top of the establishment of a new setting. But if it is any consolation, it seems that the only thing that will stay constant is the presence of Nic Pizzolatto, the showrunner who personally wrote every single episode for the first season.
It has been hinted that this season will revolve around the murder of Ben Caspar, a corrupt city manager. Pizzolatto himself stated that 'True Detective' Season 2 will be about bad men, hard women, and a secret occult history of the transportation system of the United States. The investigation will then take place amid a possibly groundbreaking transportation deal that is bound to change the state's freeway gridlock forever. Three law enforcers coming from different branches or places will take part in the murder investigation but things will get real dark when it is discovered that the victim's chest is carved with satanic symbols, hinting is link to the occult.
As it is, to see is always to believe and fans can only hope that despite the changes in the characters and setting, 'True Detective' Season 2 will still be able to live up to their expectations.
