"The Walking Dead" Season 5 Premiere: Most Talked about Episode Ever in the Series History
"The Walking Dead" season five premiere was considered as the most talked about episode ever in the series history. Watched by 17.3 million viewers, this episode got up to six percent compared to the premiere of season four.
Charlie Collier, the AMC president, said that it is a dead man's party and nobody could ask for more. "The Walking Dead" season five premiere is the series that dominated the social media activity for all scripted television this year. The premiere garnered millions of tweets and considered as the number one series premiere this year.
Some key takeaways of "The Walking Dead" season five premiere were also revealed at Cleveland.com. According to the website, viewers should expect more flashbacks. The season five premiere of the series shows runners kept referring to a time shift, which will occur during its first episode. The episode started with a flashback of Alex, Gareth, Mary, and other residents of Terminus being held as hostage in a rail car. Viewers will also learn that Gareth and his company used to be great individuals, but were tortured by the attackers and realized how harsh the world is. During the aftershow "The Talking Dead", Scott Gimple said that the show will not play with time, yet fans may expect for some flashbacks. This is not surprising given that there is some new characters, eventual backstory on Rosita, Eugene, and Abraham, and Beth's re-introduction.
Mary, Alex, and Gareth were also revealed as related to each other. Gimple confirmed it. Mary is the mother of Alex and Gareth. They are a happy and cannibalistic family. The episode started with Alex who is chopped up and the walkers presumably ate his mother, Mary. Another takeaway of the season five premiere is the comeback of Morgan. Even if Morgan will only appear in two episodes of the season five, he is still one of the most famous characters.
Recently, AMC announced that it has renewed the sixth season of "The Walking Dead". The network also ordered a pilot for possible companion series to "The Walking Dead", which will be based on new characters and a new story from Robert Kirkman.
