'Bible' Producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey Treat Liberty University to Sneak Peek of New 'Son of God' Film
Capitalizing on the success of their massive ratings hit The Bible on History Channel, producer couple Mark Burnett and Roma Downey will soon release their upcoming film Son of God. Students at Liberty University were treated to a special screening of the film during their Monday convocation service.
The students were shown two scenes, a music video and a trailer from the movie. Downey also shared stories from on set.
More than 100 million viewers tuned in for The Bible miniseries, prompting Burnett and Downey to re-edit some of the episodes featuring Jesus, played by Diogo Morgado, and add more footage to fill out the entire film.
"We knew that the footage that we had on the life of Jesus was so extraordinary that it deserved its own big-screen moment," Downey said. "Jesus has not been on the big screen in 10 years, so there is a whole generation of young people who have not had an opportunity to go to the theater and see the life of our Savior on the big screen."
Five-time Emmy winner Burnett is responsible for a string of hit shows such as Survivor, The Voice, The Apprentice and Shark Tank. Downey is best known for her role on Touched By An Angel.
Son of God hits theaters February 28 and will be released in both Korean and Spanish.
