Singer Melissa Etheridge: Angelina Jolie is "Fearful", So She Had Breast Surgery
News for Melissa Etheridge Clarification, News for Melissa Etheridge's Comment Against Angelina Jolie's Mastectomy
Singer Melissa Etheridge once again finds herself in the lime light to clarify her statement last year on Angelina Jolie's double mastectomy. She called the actress "fearful" for doing the surgery. When her treating physician pointed out the chance of her developing cancer, the Oscar award-winning actress decided to undergo an operation to remove her breasts. Fans and people from around the world were shocked when she broke the news about her surgery. Soon after the "Tomb Raider" star's announcement, singer Melissa Etheridge, a breast cancer survivor herself, commented that "I wouldn't call it the brave choice. I actually think it's the most fearful choice you can make when confronting anything with cancer."
The "Come to My Window" hit maker insists that she didn't mean it to come out insensitvely. On Wednesday, she explained her comment through an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live". "I have never even ever spoken to Angelina. But I didn't mean that comment meanly. I certainly want to clear that up." She said "I just felt that calling it 'brave' was not something I would do. To cut healthy tissue off is fearful because you're fearful of getting something. Brave to me would be different. And that's all. ... People can do whatever they want. It's their bodies, their health." she added, Blog.chron reports. The 53-year-old cancer survivor also had the same BRCA1 gene as Jolie.
