"Half-Life 3" Release Date: HL3 Release Date Announcement Confirmed?
"Half-Life" is a science-fiction video game, developed by Valve Corporation and served as the company's debut product.
Initially released in 1998 by Sierra Studios for Microsoft Windows, the game was also released in the PlayStation 2 platform. Mac OS X and Linux ports also became accessible in January 2013.
In the game, players act as Dr. Gordon Freeman, a theoretical physicist who must fight his way out a hidden underground research facility whose research and experiments into teleportation technology have gone disastrously wrong.
Half-Life is a first-person shooter that requires the player to perform fighting tasks as well as solving puzzles in order to progress through the game. It also makes use of scripted sequences like a Vortigaunt ramming down a door, to move on to major plot points. The player sees through his eyes for the entire length of the game. Half-Life has no levels, but it divides the game into chapters, whose titles appear on the screen as the player advances through the game.
Valve head Gabe Newell has confirmed in an interview in the middle of November 2013 that they are working on a new game engine.
"We've been working on new engine stuff for a while," Newell said.
"We're just waiting for a game to roll it out with it," Valve's head added.
Regrettably, Newell was not able to name the game, however, it definitely got everybody thinking about it.
In January 2014, the Washington Post revealed Newell saying that the firm is focusing on multi-player games instead of single player Half-Life new installment.
"When we started out, we were a single-player video game company that could have been really successful just doing Half-Life sequel after Half-Life sequel," he said.
"But we collectively said let's try to make multi-player games even though there's never been a commercial successful multi-player game," Newell added.
Newell's comments did not directly suggest a Half-Life installment. However, it can be assured that if "Half-Life 3" pushes through, it will have an integrated multi-player mode.
Meanwhile, "Counter-Strike" co-creator and ex-valve man, Minh Le, revealed in Techradar.com that "Half-Life 3" is being worked on right now, while "Left 4 Dead 3" is shaping up.
"I think it's kind of public knowledge that people know that it is being worked on. And so if I were able to say yeah, I've seen some images, like some concept art of it, that wouldn't be big news to be honest," said Le.
"I guess I could say that I did see something looked kinda like in the Half-Life universe. And I mean it wouldn't surprise anyone if I said they're doing it, they're working on it, yeah. So to go on a limb I'd say I did see some concept art for 'Half-Life 3'."
"Half-Life 3" is one of the pioneers in bringing first person games to a whole new level, since Counter-Strike. Cyberland reported that Valve is allegedly announcing the game at EGX 2014 event. The highly-anticipated "Half-Life 3" release date could possibly be the exact release date of the first batch of new Steam Machines and Source Engine 2.
