Whiplash won two awards in the Sundance Film Festival. Written and directed by Damien Chazelle, the award winning drama movie garnered the Audience award and U.S. dramatic category at The 2014 Sundance Film Festival.
The film stars Miles Teller as Andrew Neyman, an ambitious jazz drummer who is inspired to be a top musician. He was guided by his mentor, J.K. Simmons playing as Terence Fletcher. Whiplash other casts include, Melissa Benoist, Austin Stowell, Jayson Blair and Kavita Patil.
Whiplash' Release Date is expected to be on Jan.15, 2015 in the U.K. cinemas and on Oct. 10 in the U.S. The story revolves around Andrew and Terence encounter at the New York Schaffer Conservatory of Music. Drawn by his eagerness to be "one of the greatest" because of his father unsuccessful writing career, Andrew did everything in the music conservatory.
The conflict arose when he met his teacher, Terence, who is one of the best instructors but known for his terror tactics of teaching in the school of music. Andrew plays as a 19-year old, introvert and a self-driven jazz percussionist who later struggles with his sadistic instructor.
Every student wants to join Terence's studio band, and Andrew feels so lucky to be selected in the group. The sad story here is that Terence is not only a very good instructor. He is also a mid-sociopath who believes that he can hone the skills of his students through "psychological warfare"- including verbal and emotional abuse.
Almost the whole scene of the movie took place in the practice room of the conservatory, where Andrew learned, and changed. The story that opens the realization between dreams and reality, it is one of the 2014 drama films to be watched for.
Whiplash holds a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with its 25 reviews with an average rate of 8/10. The consensus of the site reviews the film as "intense, inspiring, and well-acted." It also hit a score of 85 over 100 in Metacritic labeling it with "universal acclaim."
Whiplash' Release Date will be on Oct. 10, opens on Oct. 23 at cinemas with Advance screenings on Oct. 17 to 19.
