"Orphan Black" is a BBC America's second original drama commission, which chronicles around Sarah, an outsider, orphan, and street-wise chameleon.
After seeing a woman commit suicide, Sarah assumes the stranger's identity. Soon, she realizes that she and the dead woman are clones. Upon knowing that, Sarah begins searching for answers. She soon finds out that there are other people like her. She discovers that they are individuals who were planted in unsuspecting parents and nurtured in entirely dissimilar situations. Having no knowledge regarding who created the clones, Sarah hastily searches for the truth, since people like her are being killed one by one.
The cast includes Golden Globe nominee Tatiana Maslany, Jordan Gavaris, Dylan Bruce, Skyler Wexler, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Evelyn Brochu, Kristian Bruun, Matt Frewer and Michael Mando. Michiel Huisman, Ari Millen, Peter Outerbridge, Michelle Forbes and Patrick Adams, are also included in the cast of the second season.
The BBC drama became the first ever ad-supported drama series to gain double ratings from the first two seasons in A25-54 and 18-49 in Live+7. The finale of its second season earned series highs in Live+7, approximately 1.376 million among total viewers.
The series, with Graeme Manson and John Fawcett as its creators, earned a Peabody Award this year. More than that, its lead actress Tatiana Maslany has received two Critics' Choice Award for Best Actress, a Young Hollywood Award, a TCA Award for Individual Achievement, a Gracie Award and Golden Globe and People's Choice Nominations.
John Fawcett is the pilot of the series. "Orphan Black" is produced by Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier on behalf of Temple Street Productions, along with Graeme Manson serving as writer.
BBC America's general manager, Perry Simon, has made an announcement that they have renewed award-winning Orphan Black for a third season with ten episodes. More than that, BBC also confirmed that alongside "Orphan Black" Season 3, "Broadchurch" will also be having its new season next year. Also included are two new dramas going into production. The first is "Tatau," from the producers of "Being Human" and the other is "The Last Kingdom," from the producers of "Downton Abbey." The announcement was made during the channel's presentation for the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills last July 2014.
BBC America, owned by BBC Worldwide as its marketing arm, attracted both critical commendation as well as major awards including two Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes, and eleven Peabody Awards.
Distributed by BBC Worldwide, "Orphan Black" Season 3 will premiere in 2015, along with the second season of "Broadchurch."
