WhoSampled Now Also An Android App, Downloadable For Free At Google Play Store
The WhoSampled app is now also available for Android-powered phones from the Google Play store for free, although it can still be bought for $2.99 from iTunes or Apple's iOS powered devices. With the app, users get detailed information on songs, including what other songs have sampled them, what artists have covered music from other artists, and what remixes were then made for a track. With it, they get "to explore the musical connections in their own music collection."
Regarding the launch of the app on Android, WhoSampled CEO Nadav Poraz in an interview with CMU said: "It's great to be going live on Android today, not only because of the breadth of the platform but because it's something our users have been requesting for a while now. The WhoSampled experience on Android brings even more personalisation to our music discovery path, allowing users to break down the DNA of the music they have stored on their Android devices and discover exciting new music as a result."
The service, which to date has 270,000 tracks and samples featuring over 95,000 artists, now receives more than one million visitors monthly. Poraz in another talk with Beauty World News revealed, "We have broken out of the niche of super-hardcore fans of sampling. We recently changed the title of our site, too. We used to be 'the ultimate database of sample-based music,' but it no longer mentions the word 'database.'" At its website, it may be seen that the new WhoSampled slogan is now "Exploring the DNA of music."
Unlike with iTunes, WhoSampled hopes to earn from their Android app via paid advertisements, just as it does with its main website. Poraz in yet another interview with the Guardian said, "We want to go as mainstream as possible, and bring this experience to as many people as we can. If it does monetize reasonably well on Android with the ads, we'll certainly consider it with the iPhone."
