Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 Latest Update: Lighter, Faster Tablet Boasts Fire OS Sangria and Dolby Atmos Audio Feature
Amazon's line of its Kindle Fire tablets is finally complete with the addition of Fire HDX 8.9, alongside with the unveiling of Fire HD 6 and Fire HD 7. Designs are remarkably thinner, lighter, and have higher resolution displays and faster processors. The latest slate is already available for pre-order with a start-up price of at $379 for a 16GB model, while the LTE model with 64GB built-in memory costs $594. Additionally, the tablet can also come with AT&T or Verizon LTE starting at $529 with 32GB of storage.
The tablet also comes with accessories, such the origami cover and keyboard, but is however sold separately at $55 and $60, respectively.
The Amazon Fire HDX 8.9 measures 231 X 158 X 7.8mm, and weighs 375 grams for Wi-Fi, and 389 grams for the 4G LTE model. The unit features a 8.9" display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels (399ppi) and 100% sRGB pixel allowing more vibrant display. It also offers 8MP main camera has a f/2.2 lens, LED flash, and a high definition front camera.The device also boasts its Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 chipset with 2GB RAM, 2.5GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 420 GPU offering faster graphics. Fire HDX 8.9's new Dolby Atmosaudio engine, also brags sound quality enhancement that works best with headphones. Connectivity includes dual-band, and dual-antenna Wi-Fi and 4G LTE.
With Amazon's latest tablet, the firm have had also announced the release of the newest Fire OS version, Sangria. This update allows users to customized and personalized device settings among different users. Fire OS 4 Sangria, which is built on Android KikKat also highlights Family Library allowing family members to share apps, games, and other contents without restrictions. Amazon clarified that family members are determined through the use of address and billing information. The OS also integrates Amazon's Mayday on-device support and Firefly shopping assistant.
Amazon claims that on top of these features, HDX's hardware can perform up to 12 hours of mixed usage.
