Apple and Private data on iOS 8: Data is fully protected on the device, unlike before
Apple brings a lot of new and interesting features with their new iOS 8, which was first revealed in June but launched on 17th September 2014. With some amazing features, this iOS is able to protect information stored in the phone from anyone, even from the police.
The Apple Company announces that all the information stored in the phone will be under deep protection of the four-digit passcode needed to log in to the device. At first, Apple was able to extract information even if the phone was locked with the passcode in terms of search warrant against the accused but this time there would be no provision for this since the phone will be impossible to access by any other source rather than its owner along with the passcode.
The information stored in the device is well protected by the new security system but the data stored on iCloud service is not protected by iOS 8 security system. So Apple will be only able to extract the data stored on iCloud if the warrant is valid The company talks about the addition of the software that it would power up the speed of the applications used as well as privacy.
The Supreme Court ruled almost five months ago, that police shall need search warrants to access mobile phone of the accused. But Apple has decreased the chances for getting information from the phone since it will be inaccessible.
This kind of step to secure the secrets might have pleased the fans or users of iPhone but has really brought bad days for law enforcement officials as much of the evidence often used to be found on cell phones.
Principal technologist Christopher Soghoian supported the move of Apple Company and praised about their plan to increase the privacy of the user. He also mentioned the Snowden issue. He thinks information on the cellphones are extremely personal and it shouldn't get leaked.
The data protection system was questioned openly when a number of celebrities complained about the hackers' accessibility into Apple account. But with this step of upgrading security system Apple has responded strongly to the question.
