If you know anything about rap music then you know about the group N.W.A. The rap group which originally consisted of Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Arabian Prince and DJ Yella was one of the most prolific rap groups of all time with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre going on to be huge successes. For a very long time musical biopics did not focus on rappers but all that changed with the flick Notorious that was about the life of rapper Notorious BIG. The movie is produced by Cube Vision and Will Packer Productions and will be distributed by Universal Pictures. F. Gary Gray is set to direct the movie. Mr. Gray is known for his work on Friday and Set it Off both amazing movies. The movie that shares a title with one of their more controversial songs is asset to be released on April 14th 2015.
In the mid 80's Compton California was a rough neighborhood. Five young men took their experiences from the streets and translated them into music, not just any music but rap. The story of the group has been explored in various documentaries with the best known one being N.W.A: The World's Most Dangerous Group which was released in 2008. The group was the first to really explore the genre of gangster rap with their lyrics that openly protested police brutality.
Among the producers of the movie are Ice Cube and Dr. Dre both of whom were members of the group. Dr. Dre has become one of America's richest men with the acquisition of his brand by Apple and Ice Cube has gone n to be a successful actor and producer with his own film company. The story is written by Jonathan Herman, Alan Wenkus, S. Leigh Savidge and Andrea Berloff. Names on the cast list include Jason Mitchell, Corey J. Hawkins, Aldis Hodge and Neil Brown, Jr. O' Shea Jackson Jr. shall be depicting his father, Ice cube, in the movie. The movie was shot partly in Compton and while shooting experienced a real drive by shooting. None of the cast or crew were injured in the incidence.
