The Equalizer Release Date: Denzel Washington Lead Star of The Equalizer, Film's Release Date Pushes Back
Sony/Columbia Pictures already spent several years trying to have a cinematic version of "The Equalizer." It was a renowned TV series that played from 1985 to. 1989. The lead star of the TV series was the late Edward Woodward, who played the role of Robert McCall, a gunman turned good detective. As a detective, he spent his life helping others especially those who are weak and unfortunate. He did that to cover up the days when he was still bad guy.
Plans to adapt the book into a movie halted in 2013, subsequent to Russell Crowe as well Director Paul Haggis' departure. Haggis needed to spend more time on the the movie "The Next Three Days." However, progress resumed when Denzel Washington got on board.. The script is now drafted by Richard Wenk, who was also the one who wrote the script for the movie, "The Mechanic."
Sony wanted to make "The Equalizer" into a movie as soon as possible. However, things turned out differently, as much as the studio wanted this to be smooth-sailing. The reason was that Rupert Wyatt and Nicholas Winding Refn passed on the directing job just before Antoine Fuqua accepted the director's position.
Because of this, Sony do not have any choice but to postpone it. So, from April 11, 2014 as its original plan of release date it was moved to September 26, 2014. The movie got a budget of $50 million, $20 million of which served as Denzel Washington's salary. The studio considered this amount as a worthy investment and a risk they are willing to take. The studio is confident that the movie will become a box office considering Washington's acting prowess. Washington's last four movies earned gross sales between $80-130 million in U.S. alone.
