NBA News: Miami Heat Inks Deal with Khem Birch, Luol Deng Wants To Move On From The Danny Ferry 'Racist' Incident, Chris Bosh Ties In With 'Mr. Nice Tie' and Shaquille O'Neal To Join Miami Police
The Miami Heat official website on Sunday announced that the franchise has signed on 6'9″ ex-UNLV standout forward Khem Birch to join the team, although of course the deal details have as per policy, not been disclosed. Birch was named the 'Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year' and averaged 11.5 points and 10.2 rebounds per game during the 2013-14 NCAA season. He now has a chance to make it to the Heat's 15-man starting roster and to the join in the rotation at the big spots.
Meanwhile, Miami Heat small forward Luol Deng just wants to move on following the incident resulting from Atlanta Hawks' general manager Danny Ferry's purported racist remarks about him, says a former teammate who sits on the executive board of the NBA Players Association and who is still a Hawks player. According to an ESPN NBA news report, Kyle Korver said: "He told me that he didn't think that Danny or anyone with the Hawks was racist. He said he was shocked when he heard what was said, but that sometimes things just slip out. It was pretty amazing, really. He just wants everything to move on. He wants to get back to basketball."
In related NBA news, Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh took his interview opportunity with CNN's HLN to promote his own "Mr. Nice Tie" collection, which consists of 5 ties and 5 bow ties, which is set for a Fall 2014 launch. On what inspired him to create the line, Bosh said: "When I was a kid I used to watch my father get ready in the mirror. He used to get dressed and the last thing he always did was tie his tie. I don't know if he saw me, but I'd constantly watch him get ready in the mirror. I remember being so proud the first time I learned how to tie that first tie knot by myself. That moment to me was priceless."
Still in related NBA news, ex-Miami Heat, ex-Los Angeles Lakers, ex-Boston Celtics, ex-Phoenix Suns, Ex-Cleveland Cavaliers, and ex-Orlando Magic superstar Shaquille O'Neal may soon add being a police officer once he passes the mandatory background checks and battery of physical and psychological tests for the job according to Huffington Post. Off-court, Shaquille who has an MBA and a PhD in Education, is also an actor, a musician and a successful businessman.
