Gotham TV Show News, Cast, and Spoilers: First Look at Penguins Mother Released by EW
Entertainment Weekly exclusively reveals new photos of Penguin's mother, Gertrude Kapelput played by comedienne Carol Kane. The character has been described as "a proud and faded beauty; an old European character with delusions of grandeur."
Kane is known for her roles for The Princess Bride and for the television series Girls. She will guest star for Gotham's second episode which is titled "Selina Kyle" and has been rumored to be about Selina Kyle's origins, as well as Penguin's return to the city after being in the countryside. Gotham premieres on September 22 at 8pm on Fox.
Gotham will tell the story of the time before Batman patrolled the streets of the city. Detective James Gordon is newly recruited for Gotham City Police Department by Captain Sarah Essen and is then partnered with Harvey Bullock. Their case: to solve the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. Bruce, Wayne's son, now in the care of his butler Alfred Pennyworth, meets Detective Gordon. Upon meeting Bruce, this compels the rookie detective to catch the murderer. Gordon must now confront the criminal underworld that has plagued this city as well as future villains such as The Penguin, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. The criminal underworld is ruled by gang boss Fish Mooney, and she proves to be a solid adversary. Gordon develops an unlikely friendship with Bruce unknowingly shaping him to be the caped crusader one day.
Gotham stars Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Camren Bicondova, and Cory Micahel Smith
