ABC's Selfie premieres on September 30; Karen Gillan and John Cho poke fun on social media obsession
Having been the subject of a very embarrassing viral video, a 20-something girl asks help from a marketing guru to do damage control on her reputation.
That in a nutshell is the premise of Selfie, ABC's newest comedy series, which premieres this September 30. Selfie stars Karen Gillan as the self-absorbed Eliza Dooley while John Cho plays marketing expert Henry Higgenbottam. Henry then tries to show Eliza that she should have actual friends to connect with, and that there's more to life than playing Candy Crush or checking out her Facebook page.
This is a starring role for Gillan, who is best known as Amy Pond in the sci-fi cult favorite, Doctor Who, and as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Selfie also stars Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Allyn Rachel, and David Harewood.
Selfie was created and produced by actress and Emmy Award nominated writer Emily Kapnek.
Judging from the character names, Selfie on ABC is a modern version of George Bernard Shaw's My Fair Lady, which is a tale of self-transformation. This time, the story is set in a world obsessed with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and where nothing is official until shared online.
