Minority Report News: Movie 'Minority Report' Reboots on TV with a Female Lead Cast
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox is working on a TV sequel to the 2002 movie Minority Report. The movie starred Tom Cruise and was directed by Steven Spielberg. Cruise plays the role of a leader of the PreCrime Unit. They arrest criminal base on "foreknowledge" or knowing ahead of time whether a person will commit a crime in the future. In the movie, the PreCrime Unit uses PreCogs or psychics to predict crimes. The movie did end in a "close-book" manner and it will be interesting to know how the TV sequel will reintroduced the story line and what twist and turns are they going to do to entice the viewers.
The movie was based on Philip K. Dick's short story with the same title.
Minority Report TV Reboot is going to focus on one of the three "precogs" who is trying to live a normal life after being a member of the PreCrime Unit. His struggles begin after being haunted by visions of crimes committed in the future. This particular male precog will meet a female detective haunted by her own past. In the Minority Report TV sequel, she will try to help the male precog to find purpose for his "gift." It does sound like your typical crime drama but keep in mind that Minority Report is a Sci-FI movie and this will be followed by the TV sequel, which means that it will be a Sci-Fi crime drama. It is actually going to be set 10 years from when the movie ended. So the Minority Report TV sequel is going to start probably around the year 2064 so expect futuristic visual effects and graphics.
Max Borenstein is going to be the show's screenwriter. Borenstein recent success with Godzilla makes him one topnotch choice for the job. Fox, Spielberg's Amblin Television, and Paramount Television will co-produce the Minority Report TV Reboot.
