Justice League: Throne of Atlantis Direct-To-Video Animated Movie Set for 2015 Release
A new Justice League movie targeted for 2015 release is in the works at the DC Universe Animated Original Movies (DCUAOM) direct-to-video film studio. Entitled Justice League: Throne of Atlantis, it will be a sequel to the Justice League movie 2014's Justice League: War.
Written by Heath Corson based on the 2011 Throne of Atlantis storyline in the DC comic series, the upcoming Justice League movie cast members are Matt Lanter as Aquaman, Jerry O'Connell as Superman, Jason O'Mara as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Wonder Woman, Christopher Gorham as Flash, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Sean Patrick Thomas as Cyborg, Sean Astin as Shazam, Sumalee Montano as Mera, Sam Witwer as Orm, Sirena Irwin as Queen Atlanta, and Steven Blum as Cyborg's armor, according to Newsarama.
Before Throne of Atlantis and "War," DCUAOM's Justice League movie list includes a Justice League 2013 movie entitled "The Flashpoint Paradox," a Justice League 2012 movie entitled "Doom,"a Justice League 2010 movie entitled "Crisis on Two Earths," and a Justice League 2008 movie entitled "The New Frontier."
In the DC comic book universe, the Justice League is a team of superheroes originally comprised of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and the Martian Manhunter. Over the years, the Justice League cast has expanded and rotated, and at certain points include such other superheroes as Green Arrow, Black Canary, the Atom, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Cyborg, Captain Marvel, Elongated Man, Zatanna, Vixen, Red Tornado, and many more.
DCUAOM videos, unlike the animated DC television series and movies, are marketed at a more mature audience since they usually contain scenes involving graphic violence, some suggestive sex and profane language.
In related Justice League entertainment news, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice scheduled for 2016 showing in theaters will serve as a prequel or jumping point for a Justice League film that may be set for a 2017 release.
