Microsoft Surface Mini Tablet: Production on the mini tablet is expected to resume
The Microsoft Surface Mini Tablet may be finally unveiled this summer according to CNet. Production on the mini tablet is expected to resume. The Taipei-based DigiTimes reports that "Microsoft is expected to launch a 10.6-inch new version of Surface in October 2014, with production of components to begin in August and volume production of the tablet to kick off in September..." Previously, Microsoft canceled its plan to release the Surface Mini Tablet said Mashable. During the last quarterly earnings call held in July, Microsoft's CFO Amy Hood said, "During the quarter, we reassessed our product roadmap and decided not to ship a new form factor that was under development," referring to the Microsoft Surface Mini Tablet. Apparently, the Redmond company has reconsidered that decision.
In a comparison between the iPad and the iPad mini vs Microsoft Surface tablet, Apple is clearly the more dominant in the tablet computer market, prompting Mashable's Chief Correspondent Lance Ulanoff to advise that "If Microsoft's Surface Mini isn't every bit as good as Apple's iPad Mini, I'm not sure they should even bother... it needs to understand that "good enough" will not cut it in this space... Go full-on tablet and do not look back, Microsoft. No more half-measures like Surface 2..."
As far as the Microsoft Surface tablet specs go, the hardware received generally positive reviews, while the software and overall experience, if not negative, then at best were mixed. Tech Crunch says "The Microsoft Surface RT is a PC. It's not a mobile device and it's not a tablet, it's a PC....the Surface acts like a tablet and ends up working more like a notebook. This interface between flat tablet and horizontal laptop is frustrating and confusing." Matt Buchanan at Buzzfeed advises against buying one, saying, "Surface is good, but it doesn't get close enough. The thing is, Surface is supposed to be so much more than just Microsoft's iPad alternative, the Other Tablet. It may very well be one day. It has everything it needs to be that. But right now it's just another tablet. And not one you should buy today."
Microsoft Surface tablet price, because of dropping sales, has already been repeatedly slashed. Microsoft's loss from its Surface tablet computers is now nearing $2 billion says Hot Hardware.
