'Shazam' Rumors, Cast, Latest News and Movie Update: 'The Rock' Johnson Plays the Role of Black Adam NOT Shazam in Upcoming DC Comics Movie

WWE Wrestling Superstar and actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has finally confirmed the role he is going to play in upcoming DC movie "Shazam".

Meet Black Adam

This week, The Rock tweeted about his Black Adams role. He wrote, "'Kneel at his feet or get crushed by his boot.' My Honor to become... #BlackAdam #TheAntiHero #DCComics" In DC Comics, Black Adam is an enemy of Captain Marvel.

According to Variety, DC Comics is currently portraying Black Adam more of an anti-hero who wants to prove his innocence rather than a villain. (In the DC Comicbook Captain Marvel, Black Adam is an Egyptian renegade)

Reaction from New Line Cinema

In the same variety post, New Line Cinema president and CCO Toby Emmerich said, "We love Dwayne and have had nothing but success with him over the years. When I look at Dwayne both off screen and on screen, he is such a larger than life character and it just made perfect sense to me that we put him in a DC comic movie."

Shazam Movie Update

Although it is confirmed that "The Rock" is now on board as Black Adam. Variety also reports that the one who will play Captain Marvel or Shazam has not yet been announced. No production date has also been set since the scriptwriter has just been hired. Darren Lemke is the recently hired scriptwriter.
