'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Release Date, Cast Star Ian Somerhalder Teases Screenshot on Instagram See Here [PICTURE]

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 premiere is just under a month away and fans are looking out for any updates they can on the upcoming season. 

Cast star Ian Somerhalder took to social media to share a screenshot from the new season while helping out with some post-production for the upcoming episodes. 

"Wow, it's started! This is a screen shot, I'll probably get in trouble for it;) from the 1st episode. Hmmm, who am I talking to???" he teased fans on Instagram.

He added, "Here I am, doing some post production work on Season 6 of The Vampire Diaries with our INCREDIBLE post-production team The post production team on this show is second to none- they, like our crew are the unsung heroes of the stories on screen that get seen by you! If anything please thank these amazing people and show them some love! Thank you! Love, Ian."

"The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 premieres Thursday, October 2nd at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.

"The way we look at it, season six is a beautiful and organic reset. The theme of the season is everybody gets to start over. That's what we're going to do," executive producer Julie Plec told THR. "We're trying to take the show away from the massive genre extravaganza, where each season we try to top each other with the bigger, bad, more exciting mythologies and boil it back down to the beginning."

The show has announced that several new cast members are set to be added to the show for Season 6 including Marco James, Colin Ferguson, Gabrielle Walsh, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe, Chris Wood and Jayson Warner Smith. Previously reported new guest stars for Season 6 include Emily C. Chang as Ivy.
