Captain America 3 Release Date: Film Starts Shooting Next Spring, Winter Soldier to Return; Death of Steve Rogers?
The official title for Captain America 3 is being teased by The Winter Soldier directors Joe and Anthony Russo. They've said that fans will "freak out" when they finally reveal which characters will be involved in the upcoming sequel.
"I think when people learn the title of Cap 3, they'll understand that Marvel is continuing to take really big swings," Joe said via Cinema Blend. "[The title] is coming soon. Shortly. Very, very soon." He also added, "Look, sometimes the announcement waits on certain business deals to be completed so we're just kind of waiting on the business end of the issue to sort of settle itself and we'll be ready to announce it. But we're hoping in a month or so at the most."
In terms of the actual plot of the upcoming sequel, there's been numerous speculations that Captain America 3 will see the death of Captain Steve Rogers. "We just got another incredible draft from the writers and are very excited about the film," says Anthony in an interview with Movie.com. "I can't divulge who is going to be in the film, but I think the fans are going to freak out when they hear about it. After the events of The Winter Soldier, the conflict between Captain America and Bucky was never really resolved, and the upcoming sequel might shed some more light between their relationship.
"Thinking about where that relationship can go is a piece of the puzzle for us for sure. That character is a wonderfully, beautifully tragic figure in the sense of is he the world's most feared assassin or is he the world's longest serving POW. Is he innocent by reason of insanity or the equivalent of it because he's been mind controlled or is he irredeemable? Is he ever going to be acceptable to Cap again as the friend that he used to be before he was the Winter Soldier? These are very philosophical, emotional questions that pique our interest and definitely form one layer of the next movie," explains Anthony Russo.
Ant-Man has already begun production in a new state of the art complex in Pinewood Studios located in Atlanta, and it seems like Marvel Studios is making sure that they keep using it to keep other productions out. After Ant-Man's production there, it's been reported that Captain America 3 will also start setting up there next Spring. "It's not an all-Atlanta shoot, it's a lot of stage work in Atlanta," Anthony said. "There's other locations that are also involved that I don't think we can get into."
Captain America 3 will be released on May 6, 2016.
