iWatch Release Date, Latest News: Delayed for 2015 Due to Production Problems?
The highly anticipated iWatch release has been delayed and will not go on sale until 2015 according to Apple Insider based on a report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has a good track record when it comes to predicting Apple's product plans.
According to Kuo's report, "We reiterate our view that iWatch, as compared to existing products, and as Apple's (US) first attempt at a wearable device, represents a much higher level of difficulty for the company as regards component and system design, manufacturing and integration between hardware and software. While we are positive on iWatch and believe that the advantages of the design and business model behind it are difficult to copy, we think, given the aforementioned challenges, that the launch could be postponed to 2015." Last month, Kuo noted that Apple may be having some difficulties in the production of the sapphire watch covers.
Tech Radar however suspects that a limited supply of Apple's first wearable gadget could be shipped in by October or November to be able to compete with Google's own first Android wear smartwatches care of Samsung Gear Live, LG G Watch and Moto 360. The tech site also hinted that the iWatch may be priced within the $250-$300 range.
Code/Red previously reported that October is the target date for the release of the iWatch. In fact, says MacRumors, Apple has already started work on trademarking the name in a number of countries in preparation for a late 2014 unveiling of the wearable gadget.
The iWatch, according to Kuo, will come in two separate sizes to accommodate different sized wrists: 1.3 inches and 1.5 inches. Both watches will include flexible AMOLED displays with sapphire covers to protect the device from scratches. It will carry biometric sensors, a capability for integration with iPhone, iPad, and Mac, an NFC chip, and a slim and light design. It may also include an antenna design that can allow wireless charging. Kuo further believes that Apple will release the iWatch at multiple price points and in a variety of materials.
