Insurgent Release Date, News, Rumors and Updates: Trailer to be Shown in November
With the success of the film adaptation of Veronica Roth's Divergent, which earned a worldwide gross of over $274 million, the sequel Insurgent will make its way to the big screen next year.
The Divergent series is a science fiction young adult story following the character of Beatrice Prior set in post-apocalyptic Chicago where survivors are divided into five factions based on their dispositions. Those who do not complete initiation to any faction are then forced to live in poverty on the streets.
The novel Divergent made its debut back in April 2011 and is the first book published by Veronica Roth under HarperCollins, and has since then spawned 3 sequels to complete the series. Summit Entertainment, known for producing The Twilight Saga, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and the Step Up series, under Lionsgate Films bought the film rights the same year and production began in 2012 with the intent to adapt the whole series by 2017.
In a transcript found at SeekingAlpha.com regarding the first quarter of the earnings reported by Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, he reveals that the first teaser trailer for Insurgent will be attached to the release of Mockingjay Part 1 in November. "All the signs are pointing to it growing into another big young adult franchise like Twilight and The Hunger Games," Feltheimer also added by saying, "With the first Insurgent trailer slated to debut with the release of Mockingjay in November, skyrocketing book sales, a stellar home entertainment launch and stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James and Ansel Elgort, generating ever-increasing online buzz, I think you can understand why we believe that the Divergent series is becoming very special."
Back in July in an interview with Hollywood Life, Ansel Elgort revealed a few details on what to expect from the anticipated sequel by saying, "It is like Divergent but a little bit darker and less introductory," he continued," It is more about the characters and now Beatrice (Shailene Woodley) is more badass so she is going to kick ass a little bit more and there will be a lot more stunts."
The first teaser trailer is set to be released alongside the premiere of Mockingjay Part 1 on November 21, 2014. Insurgent began filming back in May and is directed by Robert Schwentke (RED) and is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2015.
