Sony Reportedly Working on Smartphone Aimed at Low-End Market, Launch Likely at IFA 2014
Even as fans are eagerly waiting for Sony to launch its upcoming flagship smartphones - the Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact at IFA 2014 this September, it is likely that a third handset from the Japanese tech titan will join the line up of the company's new smartphones.
In fact, GFXBench displayed a handset sporting the moniker Sony D2203 and the website lists the device as having an extensive 6.1-inch display screen. However, the website says that the resolution of the new handset is quite disappointing - just as low as 854 x 480.
This means that the purported handset will have a pixel density of 161ppi, and if this is really true, it is sure that things will not be looking great on the screen.
In fact, this purported upcoming handset from Sony will not be trgeting the top of the end market, but be a budget phone. This is evident from the specs of the handset, which include a low resolution screen coupled with a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM.
If the rumors turn out to be correct, the Sony D2203 - the new handset Sony is supposed to be working on currently will also come with a 5MP rear camera, VGA quality front snapper, 4GB of internal storage and be powered by Google's Android 4.4.2.
Recently, Sony has just announced the 5.3-inch, mid-range Xperia T3 and, therefore, the Sony D2203 will not be the first large screened smartphone from the Japanese tech firm for consumers outside the high-end bracket.
However, all information regarding the smartphone as well as its release date is speculative at this juncture. In fact, there is no guarantee whatsoever that the purpoted smartphone will ever see the light of day. Nevertheless, Sony fans should definitely keep an eye out for at IFA 2014.
