The Martian Latest News: Originally Planned for a 2016 Release Date, Will Hit Theaters November 25, 2015
The Martian plot will be based on the book by American Novelist, Andy Weir. A science fiction novel, it follows the fictional American astronaut Mark Watney as he becomes stranded alone on Mars and must improvise in order to survive. Talk about Apollo 13 meeting Cast Away.
The Martian cast rumors includes Matt Damon who will portray Mark Watney. The film will be directed by acclaimed director Ridley Scott. Other casts has yet to be finalized.
Critical response of the book has been favorable and Publishers Weekly quoted that "Weir laces the technical details with enough keen wit to satisfy hard science fiction fan and general reader alike." Kirkus Reviews called The Martian "Sharp, funny and thrilling, with just the right amount of geekery." While The Wall Street Journal called the book "the best pure sci-fi novel in years."
Originally intended to hit theaters on 2016, the film was pushed back to an earlier time. The Martian release date would now be November 25, 2015. Fans of Damon and Scott are surely excited about this new project.
Expect Scott reveals in the upcoming Exodus: Gods and Kings starring Christian Bale hitting theaters December 26, 2014.
