Rise of the Tomb Raider Released on 2015 Exlcusively for Xbox One and Xbox 360 for a Limited Time only
Back in 2013, the much awaited reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise made a successful return to game consoles boasting a better graphics, improved gameplay, and reimagined origin of female heroine Lara Croft. The success of the reboot since then has triggered the interest of a sequel, and eventually revealed that it was in development. Last June at the Microsoft E3 press conference, it was officially announced that the sequel, Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released in 2015. The announcement was accompanied with a teaser trailer featuring the protagonist Lara Croft.
At Gamescom, held at Cologne, Germany, fans were shocked at the game developer's (Square Enix) reveal that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be an Xbox exclusive game; available only for Xbox 360 and Xbox One users. The shock and dismay by fans was brought about by the fact that the previous game was made immediately available to current-gen game platforms.
Now, Xbox maker Microsoft dropped hints that the console exclusivity of Rise of the Tomb Raider will only have a limited duration. Head of Xbox and Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer had this to say on the news, "I have tomb raider shipping next holiday exclusively on Xbox," and added, "the deal has a duration," speaking to Eurogamer.
The details on the said duration has, as of yet, not been revealed but is assumed that Rise of the Tomb Raider will become available on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms once the exclusivity duration has ended.
When asked when Rise of the Tomb Raider will be available on other platforms, Spencer added, "What they do with the franchise in the long run is not mine. I don't control it. So all I can talk about is the deal I have. I don't know where else Tomb Raider goes."
Camilla Luddington will reprise her role as the voice and motion capture of Lara Croft, and also writer of the previous game, Rhianna Pratchett, is also confirmed to be returning for Rise of the Tomb Raider.
Rise of the Tomb Raider will be released some time during the holiday season of 2015 exclusively on Xbox platforms; Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
