'Frozen' Sequel Announced from Disney Coming in 2015
Disney didn't waste any time before extending their mega-hit animated movie Frozen into a series franchise. They have announced that they will be putting out a Frozen sequel in 2015.
They will first release the new sequel in book-form in January with a series of more books to released during 2015.
They definitely wanted to capture the momentum by putting out something as quickly as possible in book form, but the next Frozen animated film will surely be to follow as well. Dis
Random House will be publishing the Frozen chapter-book series capitalizing on the film which has grossed more than $1 billion at the box office.
Anna & Elsa #1: All Hail the Queen and its sequel, Anna & Elsa #2: Memory and Magic, are set to go on sale Jan. 6, 2015. The first two stories will add more detail to the Frozen world and dive deeper into the stories of Anna and Elsa as they get to know each other as sisters.
Two more books will follow later in the year. Random House plans to publish three or four books a year going forward. The books will be written by Erica David, who has penned licensed books spun off from How to Train Your Dragon, Legend of Korra and Mr. Peabody & Sherman.
Barbara Marcus, Random House children's division president, compared the new Frozen series to the company's popular Never Girls series, which is set in Disney's Neverland sharing, "We have seen our Disney Never Girls series fill a real niche in the chapter book market, and with the momentum for Frozen only continuing to grow, we knew this was the perfect focus for this new series."
Whether it is a money grab or for real interest of making books, it will be good to get more children reading with these books because of the high interest from the movie. Could this have the popularity of the Harry Potter series? Maybe not, but it is definitely coming out at a great time with the movie still on everyones mind.
