Faith Child Explores Grief, Hope, and Healing Through Music

With his latest project, When Faith Feels Far, Faith Child steps boldly into uncharted emotional territory. Known for his upbeat, pop-infused tracks, he now invites listeners into a deeply personal journey of grief, doubt, and hope. Inspired by the loss of his father, the album examines the tension between faith and struggle, offering raw honesty and moments of profound reflection. Through a mix of rap, gospel, afrofusion, and pop, Faith Child not only shares his story but creates a space for audiences to confront their own questions and find reassurance in God's presence.
Q: When Faith Feels Far is such a raw and vulnerable project. What was the turning point for you personally that made you ready to explore grief, doubt, and hope so openly in your music?
For many years, my music painted me as the "Pop/Commercial" guy, known for upbeat tracks you could party to, which I genuinely love. But I hadn't really explored the man behind the beats and bars. Losing my dad changed that. Grief was an unfamiliar emotion for me, and writing became my way of processing it in real time. That journey birthed several songs on the album, and it turned out to be a deeply liberating experience.
Q: Several songs, like "Good Mourning" and "Unbelief", sit in the tension of faith under pressure. How did working on these tracks shape or even shift your own relationship with God during this season?
It drew me closer to God and revealed another side of His character. Verses like Psalm 23:4, "Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me," reminded me that God is present in our darkest moments.
The Psalms show us this isn't new. David often poured out his despair and sorrow through music, proving that disappointment and pain have long been expressed in song. For me, writing these songs was deeply therapeutic. It felt like God was giving me a safe space to be honest with Him, something He always offers through prayer.
Q: You've brought in some incredible collaborators-Erica Campbell, Joe L Barnes, CalledOutMusic, KB, and more. What did these voices bring to the project that you couldn't have expressed on your own?
Everyone brought a unique perspective that pulled me, and hopefully the listeners, into their world. The rappers brought their flair, whilst the singers brought the range. As a rapper myself, there is only so much I can do on my own, so collaborating with great singers opened up an entirely new dimension.
Q: The track "Church Hurt" touches on one of the hardest conversations in the Christian community. Why was it important for you to include that song, and what response do you hope it sparks?
The rise of social media has given a voice to many who were silenced for years. In recent times, numerous unfortunate stories have come to light, and we cannot stay silent. Rather than cowering away or sweeping things under the carpet, I wanted to confront them directly and offer both an apology and a safe space for dialogue, so that victims can begin their healing process and, hopefully, their return to God.
Q: Your sound on this album moves fluidly between rap, gospel, afrofusion, and pop. How do you approach blending genres while keeping your message at the forefront?
Because the man and the mission are one, I find it easy to stay true to the cause regardless of the sound. The genre might bring out a different side of me, but since it is still me, the message remains the same. It is always a message of hope, just expressed in a different way. I enjoy moving across genres because it keeps me sharp and allows the message to reach people from different cultures and with different preferences.
Q: As you take When Faith Feels Far on tour across Europe, what do you hope audiences will walk away with after experiencing these songs live?
I want people to go home knowing they are loved by God and that He is with us every step of the way. It is easy to say "God is good" when everything is working in your favour, but the real test comes when the nights grow darker and colder. Faith truly begins where human wisdom ends. I want them to leave knowing they do not need to have it all figured out, they just need the One who does.
