Vince Gill Celebrates 30 Years of Faithful Ballad “Go Rest High on That Mountain” with Dual Chart Success

Vince Gill

Country music legend Vince Gill is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his iconic, faith-filled ballad "Go Rest High on That Mountain" with a milestone achievement: both the original 1995 recording and a newly released extended version have debuted in the Top 10 on Billboard's Country Digital Song Sales chart.

The original track saw a 242 percent spike in sales, landing at No. 8 on the chart dated September 27, 2025, which accounts for downloads sold during the week ending September 18. The new "Go Rest High on That Mountain (Extended Version)" performed even stronger, reaching No. 5 on the same chart.

Written as a heartfelt tribute to loved ones lost, the song carries a deeply Christian message of hope, eternal rest, and comfort in the face of grief. Its lyrics reflect Gill's faith, pointing to God's promise of peace beyond this life.

"I've always felt like something was missing from this song," Gill said of the extended version, which features a third verse fans have long heard live but had never been recorded. "With this new verse, I finally feel like the song is complete. It's a prayer as much as a song, and I hope it continues to bring comfort to those who are hurting."

Originally released in August 1995, "Go Rest High on That Mountain" has become a timeless anthem of Christian hope and remembrance, earning double-platinum certification from the RIAA and cementing its place as one of country music's most enduring classics.

Gill is scheduled to perform the extended rendition during the "In Memoriam" segment of the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 14, alongside country star Lainey Wilson.
