Jesse Pruett Shares the Story Behind CCG Worship’s Debut Album, "Faithful"

Jesse Pruett is no stranger to the stage or the screen. A singer, songwriter, actor, and producer with credits alongside Hollywood heavyweights and music legends, he has also carved out a unique space in worship ministry as the leader of CCG Worship. With over 60 film and television music credits, multiple albums released worldwide, and songs that have reached audiences from blockbuster movies to church pews, Pruett's journey is one marked by faith, creativity, and a deep commitment to pointing people toward Jesus. In this interview, he shares how his music has impacted lives globally, the story behind CCG Worship's debut album Faithful, and the heart that drives his ministry today 

Q: You are a successful and prolific singer, songwriter, actor and producer who has shared the stage and screen with actors and musicians including Robert De Niro, Bruce Willis, Liam Hemsworth, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Sylvester Stallone, Switchfoot, Smash Mouth, Blink 182, Jason Mraz, P.O.D., and more. You have scored two films, and you currently have music credits on 60+ film and television projects. In a few sentences, tell me how you got to this point.

Years of investing in relationships. Character, work, trust building and serving. Releasing multiple albums through multiple record labels in different countries, licensing music to film and television over time has helped me get into some of these spaces, but relationship is what allowed me a seat at the table to be in film.  

Q: You have performed your own songs in a host of Hollywood movies. Can you tell me about how God has used your song "Trust In You," from the Lionsgate film, Beyond Beyond, to reach people around the world with the message of Jesus's love for them?

Trust In You was an unexpected song chosen for Beyond Beyond that I think God used to reach people in this family animation. We received multiple emails stating that they were watching this with their kids and God spoke to them in that moment, some were encouraged in their faith. One mentioned during covid this reminded them that they trust God who is their rock, and one had said that it reminded them that God cared about them, and they gave their life to Christ after getting back into reading the Bible. It's been a joy to see this song drawing people closer to God, praising Him, and being reminded that they are loved and have His hope.  

Q: What inspired the formation of CCG Worship, and how does the team's creative vision reflect the mission of Calvary Baptist Church?

I have wanted to create an original worship album with our church for a long time and this felt like the right season as songs were being written within our team. Our songs speak of the things we saw God doing in our church and team. Ultimately our vision is to help lead people to Jesus, to worship God daily with our lives, be reminded of His great love, forgiveness, hope, peace and joy that He gives. These worship songs are an expression of our love and gratitude for God in all He has done for us and continues to do.  

Q: Can you share the story behind the CCG Worship debut album, Faithful, and how the songs reflect the personal and communal experiences of your church community?

Calvary Creative Group Worship started from songs that were organically being written and we felt it was a great time to be purposeful in recording, and finding a producer to help us bring these songs to life. The songs were birthed out of our praise to God for what we have seen him doing in our church and lives. Stories of praise, forgiveness, redemption, hope, healing. We have also experienced loss, heartache and tragedy within our team but that is where our trust in God has grown deeper, our faith has become stronger and our obedience has been sweeter. Trusting and praising God in the trials and storms of life helps us depend on Christ more, surrender more and to seek His presence. In that place we see him shaping, molding and teaching us.   

Q: How does your team approach writing and producing worship music that balances Scripture-based lyrics with contemporary sound?

It is very important to us to have scriptures as our anchor in our worship songs. We do re-writes and process the lyrics together including sending them to our senior pastors to see if anything needs to change or doesn't line up biblically.   

Q: Faithful features collaborations with Sam Hart, Antonio and Allison, and other artists. How did these collaborations shape the sound and message of the album?

Having a producer who aligned with us in song, purpose and vision was very important. Sam Hart was that for our team. We spent hours talking through the album, the vision, songs and sounds. He also helped us do some re-writes on the songs. He was great. Antonio and Allison Marin were wonderful, and we loved having them worship through their instruments with us on our album.  

Q: Many songs on Faithful speak to healing, redemption, and life transformation. Can you share any testimonies or stories of how the music has impacted individuals or your congregation?

"Can I Get An Amen" has been an anthem in our church because of the forgiveness, redemption, freedom, hope and purpose we have in Christ. It is a song we have played at Celebrate Recovery celebrating freedom in Christ, sobriety, and surrendering our hurts, habits and hangups. We have played it at lake baptisms celebrating people's declaration of faith. "Shadow of Your wings" has been a song that has really made an impact for those who have experienced loss, gone through tragedy or a really difficult time. We have heard from a lot of people how that song has helped them to run to God and His shelter, to trust Him in the pain, to know He will give it purpose, like helping others walk through something similar and to be the beacon of hope and prayer warrior.   

Q: Beyond Faithful, what is next for CCG Worship, and are there plans to expand into other creative arts or outreach initiatives alongside your music ministry?

Our hope is to continue writing and recording, worship at other churches, celebrate recoveries and events sharing our stories, and eventually sharing our stories on video.
