Reign Season 2 release date set for October 2, according to CW; to be shown right after Vampire Diaries

 

Reign Season 2 returns in a couple of months, with the season premiere set for October 2, 2014, right after The Vampire Diaries.

Created by Stephanie SenGupta and Laurie McCarthy and loosely based on historical events, Reign tells the story of a young Mary, Queen of Scots in 1557 France. As she awaits her wedding to King Francis II, Mary has to deal with politics, power plays, her feelings for Francis and the attention given to her by Bash, Francis' half-brother. Meanwhile, Catherine de' Medici is plotting to prevent the marriage of Mary to Francis, as Nostradamus has predicted that the event will lead to her son's death.

The series also follows the adventures of Mary's handmaidens Kenna, Aylee, Lola, and Greer, who are also out to find love at court.

Reign's first season ended with Francis riding out to the plague-ridden countryside to get to Lola, who has given birth to their child. A heartbroken Mary is seen looking on as the castle doors close.  

Fortunately, writers have been tweeting teasers on how Reign Season 2 Episode 1 will be like.

With Reign Season 2 Episode 1 titled "The Plague," fans can expect a plague to be taking lives in and out of the castle's walls as Mary awaits news from Francis.

In an interview, series executive producer Laurie McCarthy says, "The plague is going to pass and really, what Season 2 is about is what rises from the ashes of the plague," McCarthy says. "There is going to be a famine. It's about [Francis and Mary] inheriting a nation that is in fact burning."
