Dallas Jenkins Begins Filming "Joseph of Egypt," Launching the Expanded Chosen Bible Universe

Dallas Jenkins, creator and director of the global hit series The Chosen, has announced that filming has officially begun on Joseph of Egypt, the first spinoff in the newly launched Chosen Bible Universe (CBU). Produced by Jenkins' 5&2 Studios in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, the highly anticipated biblical drama is set to bring the powerful Genesis narrative to life.
The eight-episode limited series stars Adam Hashmi (Bridgerton, Criminal Record) as Joseph, alongside a stellar cast including Alexander Siddig (Foundation) as Jacob, Babak Tafti (Succession) as Simeon, Daniel Peera (NCIS, The Cleaning Lady) as Reuben, and Iris Bahr (Curb Your Enthusiasm) as Leah.
"Joseph's story is one of betrayal, resilience, forgiveness, and redemption," said Jenkins. "It's a narrative that has captivated people for centuries, and we believe it will resonate profoundly today."
The creative team includes Craig Wright (Greenleaf, Lost) as writer and showrunner, with Jenkins serving as executive producer alongside Brad Pelo, Mark Sourian, Ryan Swanson, and Tyler Thompson. Filming is underway in New Mexico, with Prime Video holding exclusive global distribution rights.
Joseph of Egypt marks the official launch of the CBU, an ambitious expansion that will feature additional projects including:
-
A three-season retelling of Moses
-
A children's animated series, The Chosen Adventures
-
An unscripted survival series with Bear Grylls, The Chosen in the Wild
-
A multi-season series based on the Book of Acts
This expansion builds on the worldwide impact of The Chosen, which has been streamed hundreds of millions of times and translated into over 50 languages, with theatrical runs drawing audiences globally.
"Just as The Chosen reintroduced Jesus' story with authenticity and humanity, we want to tell other biblical accounts in a way that feels both true and deeply relatable," Jenkins added.
Joseph of Egypt will premiere exclusively on Prime Video following a theatrical rollout.
