'Orange is the New Black' Netflix Series Almost Cast Katie Holmes as Piper Champman Instead of Taylor Schilling
"Orange Is the New Black" has become a hit series on Netflix behind cast star Taylor Schilling, but recently show creator Jenji Kohan revealed that she almost chose Katie Holmes to play the role of Piper.
"I'm a big fan of hers," Jenji told E! News. "You know, I met with her. She had other things to do. And also in the beginning, no one knew what this was."
"I'm a big fan of Katie Holmes," Schilling added.
"Orange is the New Black" Season 3 is in production currently. The 2014 Emmy Awards are at the end of the month and "Orange is the New Black" is nominated for 'Outstanding Comedy', Taylor Schilling 'Best Actress in a Comedy' and received four nominations total.
The 2014 Emmy Awards will be hosted by late night host Seth Meyers. You can check out the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards when they air on August 25 on NBC at 8/7c.
The show is based around Taylor Schilling, who plays Piper Chapman that gets sent to prison 10 years after she got caught up in transporting drug money across international lines. She now has a fiance' Larry (Jason Biggs) and they are working through her being in prison together.
"Orange is the New Black" and "House of Cards" on Netflix have changed the way that fans can experience a series as Netflix releases full seasons (all episodes) at one time.
"Orange is the New Black" Season 3 is expected to release in June of 2015. This would follow their schedule to this point with all 13 episodes of Season 1 of the Netflix original series released on July 11, 2013 and Season 2 released in June 2014.
