Ian Yates Releases “Welcome To The Gift Of Being Wrong” From Upcoming Project
"Welcome to the Gift of Being Wrong" is the first single from Ian Yates's seventh album Kingdom. This is a song about repentance, change and lament. It's about the gift of being wrong and the joy that comes from a fundamental change in one's life.
Listen to the song HERE.
Yates says this new project is about the Kingdom of God and this song is about metanoia. It's about me changing. I'm not who I was, I've changed, I've realised that things that I thought were the pinnacle of success actually weren't. As I've delved into the kingdom of God, I've realised I've missed the mark, I've fallen short.
In an interview about the Psalms with Bono, Eugene Peterson says "we need to find a way to cuss without cussing." That's what this project is.
Ian teams up with producer Trevor Michael again as they mix elements of The 1975, Imagine Dragons and The War On Drugs with honest lyrics and passion. Yates is joined by former Delirious guitarist Stu G, Reuben Harsant on drums and Mark Prentice on bass.
Yates says "These songs were written over a 4-year period and born out a deep dive and study on the Kingdom of God. It's sparked many conversations with people about the theme and the current state of things across the world. The album asks many questions and reveals what I believe The Kingdom to be about and how I perhaps got a lot of it wrong before. I hope these songs and my story encourages people, helps them and provokes them to ask what we're building in life? Are we living for the Kingdom of God?"
