Comedian and "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart has been hard at work on his movie directorial debut for a film called Rosewater. The film stars Gael Garcia Bernal as a BBC journalist in the Iranian political drama. Bernal's character is imprisoned and tortured for 118 days after being arrested during an election protest in Iran.
They have announced an release date for Rosewood and it is set to hit theaters on November 7th. The film will be matched up against other big movies set to release around the same time in Interstellar and Big Hero 6.
The movie is based on the best-selling memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival from Maziar Bahari and Aimee Molloy. He had a longstanding relationship with the imprisoned journalist: Stewart covered Bahari's imprisonment freguently and had Bahari on "The Daily Show" after his release from prison.
"It may not be what people expect from me; it's not a comedy," Stewart told EW. "I hope people view it for what it is-a love letter to expression and the importance of it. It's everything." Stewart has been on a three-month hiatus from his hosting duties at "The Daily Show" to focus on Rosewater.
Rosewater is scheduled to premiere it at the Toronto Film Festival in September. Stewart will also serve as a producer on the film along with Scott Rudin and Gigi Pritzker. OddLot Entertainment financed the film and Open Road will be distributing the drama movie.
