Oak Ridge Boys Mourn the Death of Longtime Guitarist's Mother

The Oak Ridge Boys are mourning the death of Phyllis Carr, the mother of their longtime touring guitarist, Don Carr. Phyllis Carr died on March 8 at the age of 88. In addition to her musical son, she is survived by a daughter, a sister and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The group announced Phyllis' death in a statement on social media on Thursday (March 14). "We all loved Mama Carr," the statement reads.
Phyllis was a positive, outgoing, people-person who "never met a stranger." She endlessly supported and encouraged her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors. She loved attending live music shows and concerts, especially seeing her son playing with the Oak Ridge Boys.
She was an avid churchgoer and regularly attended Bennett Memorial United Methodist church in Henderson, KY. Phyllis was the family matriarch and loved to travel to reunite with extended family; sharing stories with them and bringing stories back to share with her local family. She greeted everyone with her beautiful smile and spread joy with her infectious laugh, two of her many wonderful qualities that will not be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to Phyllis' Life Celebration from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, and again on Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m. at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Benton-Glunt & Tapp Funeral Home in Henderson, KY with Reverend Dale Carden officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Henderson, KY.
