Relient K Celebrates 10th Anniversary of "Mmhmm" with Tour
It has been 10 years since Relient K released their landmark album "Mmhmmm." And they are celebrating it with the anouncement of the special "Mmhmm 10th Anniversary Tour" this fall with special guests Blondefire and From Indian Lakes. This tour will begin on October 30 in Louisville, KY and run through December 12 in Nashville, TN. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, August 1st through Ticketmaster.
Ten years ago Relient K released their third LP, "Mmhmm." This album is especially notable for two reasons: First, it marked their debut on Capitol. Second, it was Brian Pittman's last album with the band. In addition to being released on Capitol and Gotee, "Mmhmm" was re-released on vinyl on Mono Vs Stereo. The re-release includes a song originally from Apathetic EP, called "Apathetic Way to Be."
The singles "Be My Escape" and "Who I Am Hates Who I've Been", both found on "Mmhmm," boosted Relient K's mainstream popularity. Although the song "High of 75" was never released to mainstream markets, it spent fifteen consecutive weeks in the CCM top ten. "Mmhmm" earned the group a Canadian Juno Award nomination for Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year in 2006. In 2005, "Mmhmm" was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales in excess of 500,000 units in the United States.
Together, Relient K has released six full-length albums, five EPs and a Christmas record. They have toured the globe, and racked up several hit singles, a GRAMMY-nomination, two Dove Awards and performances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O' Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live. The Los Angeles Times has praised Relient K for "its smart blend of punk pop and power pop, weaving together influences as diverse as the Beach Boys, Blink-182 and Fountains of Wayne" while Spin noted, "Few bands play punk-influenced modern rock as proficiently."
