"Game of Thrones" Season 5 Newcomers Announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2014; Among the New Cast Members are Keisha Castle-Hughes, Alexander Siddig, and Jonathan Pryce
Comic-Con 2014 brought the exciting news that nine new characters will be joining the cast of "Game of Thrones" season five. The news was broken with a two-minute video, with each actor stating the character they will be playing on the show, as well as a personal statement about how they feel about their new roles.
Fans of the show were probably already aware of the news that much of season five will take place in the kingdom of Dorne, following the death of the wildly-popular character Oberyn Martell.
Alexander Siddig will play the older brother of Oberyn and ruler of Dorne, Doran Martell. His is a familiar face, one which fans may recognize from "24" and "Star Trek: Deep Space 9."
Keisha-Castle Hughes, a New Zealand native many will recognize from the critically acclaimed movie "Whale Rider," will be playing Obara Sand, one of Oberyn Martell's illegitimate daughters. These daughters, known as the Sand Snakes, will seek revenge against the Mountain in season five for their father's death.
Toby Sebastian, a new face in the acting world, will portray the youngest son of Oberyn, Trystane Martell. Myrcella Baratheon, daughter of Queen Mother Cersei, will finally appear this season, played by newcomer Nell Tiger Free.
Undoubtedly the biggest name coming to season five is Jonathan Pryce, whose acting career has been successful for nearly forty years and who is most noted for his role as Elliot Carver in the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies." Price will play High Sparrow, a religious figure who will be causing trouble in King's Landing.
"Game of Thrones" season 5 is expected to air sometime in 2015.
