Kanye West Debuts 25 Entries on the Christian and Gospel Charts This Week

Kanye West's brand new release Donda is one of the most successful albums to drop in music history. Released on August 29, 2021 by GOOD Music and Def Jam Recording, the album debut at #1 on Billboard's Christian Music and Gospel Album charts. On the main chart, Donda becomes West's 10th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
Meanwhile, 23 songs from the album monopolized the top 23 spots on Billboard's Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel Songs charts, both of which are fueled by streaming, airplay and sales data. The album is also the best selling album this year. The record moved 309,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 2, according to MRC Data. Donda also becomes the longest album to top the chart this decade at nearly 109 minutes and 27 tracks. Plus, West charts 23 songs off the album on the Billboard Hot 100.
Donda is even more successful than West's previous album Jesus is King. The week that Jesus Is King debuted, West became the first artist to claim the entire top 10 on both Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel Songs; on the latter chart, he extended his control to the top 11 positions. West now has a total of 21 top 10s on each chart. He boasts the sixth-most top 10s on Hot Christian Songs and the most on Hot Gospel Songs (surpassing Kirk Franklin's 17).
At #1 this week on both the Hot Christian Songs and Hot Gospel Songs is West's "Huricane." The track also opens at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs and at No. 6 on the all-format Billboard Hot 100, where, with "Jail" also new at No. 10, West ups his career count to 20 top 10s. "Huricane" features vocals from Canadian singer the Weeknd and American rapper Lil Baby. The song will be sent to American rhythmic contemporary radio stations on September 14, 2021 as the album's lead single. It was originally slated to be included on West's album Yandhi, which was eventually scrapped.
