"House of Cards" Season 3 May Return Without One of Its Most Important Characters? Actor Michael Kelly Discusses Doug Stamper's Fate
At the beginning of this month, we learned that season three of the extremely popular Netflix original series "House of Cards" would be returning in February. But will the show be returning without one of its most important characters?
We know that there is no certainty when it comes to a drama series like "House of Cards," and things definitely didn't look good for Michael Kelly's character Doug Stamper. In the season two finale, his character was bludgeoned by a rock to the head, leading open-mouthed fans to wonder if Vice President Underwood's advisor would be making a comeback in season three.
Kelly admitted his own uncertainty in an interview with Huffpost Live. "I don't know -- they haven't officially said," Kelly stated. "And with television contracts, as an actor, when you sign those contracts you sign for a long time. So technically they still own me, but I don't know yet."
Don't think he is willing to sit by and quietly accept his fate either. Kelly is just as eager to know what happens to him as fans of the show are. "I've tried a lot [to find out], are you kidding me?" he said. "I wanna know! You go to the writers' room and there's black tarps over everything. You don't get to know anything."
Whether fans of the show are ready for Doug Stamper's time on the show to be up, Michael Kelly is not quite ready to say goodbye to "House of Cards" just yet. "I have my fingers crossed," he said. "It's my best job I've ever had and the greatest people I've ever worked with. We can be hopeful but if not, it was an incredible job."
Be on the lookout for the newest season of "House of Cards" to debut exclusively on Netflix in February 2015.
