Seventh Son Movie Spoilers: John Gregory Along with Tom Ward Battling the Wicked Witch
Fans of Joseph Delaney's novel The Spook's Apprentice, rejoice! The Seventh Son is slated to be finally released come February 2015 after so many push back from the original 2013 date. It will be released under Universal Studios with Sergei Bodrov as the director and Matt Greenberg, Charles Leavitt and Aaron Guzikowski as screenwriters.
The adventure/fantasy film centers on the story of John Gregory (played by Jeff Bridges), the local spook and the seventh son of a seventh son, who takes in Tom Ward (played by Ben Barnes, popularly known by many as Prince Caspian from The Chronicles of Narnia) as an apprentice after many others have failed to carry on his legacy. Tom is an unlikely pick for he is the son of a farmer. However, problems don't stop there as there is a threat to peace - the witch Mother Malkin (played by Julianne Moore). The two must go on a quest to destroy Malkin and restore the peace.
Originally Sam Clafin was slated to play as Tom Ward but in June 2011, Clafin had to decline due to scheduling conflict and Ben Barnes was cast instead. Filming was held in Vancouver in March 2012.
The Seventh Son is not the only book to be adapted into a movie as there have been many others that had come before and will be following it. It is still uncertain as to what extent the liberties have been made in terms of the script, though there has been quite an uproar from book fans in terms of the title switch. But one thing is for certain: fans will be the ultimate judge.
