'Rising Star' ABC Premieres June 2014 with Host Josh Groban and Judges Kesha, Brad Paisley and Ludacris (VIDEO)
The newest singing competition "Rising Star" premieres on ABC this Sunday night, June 22nd. The judges for Season 1 are Kesha, Brad Paisley and Ludacris, with singer Josh Groban being the host. The appeal in "Rising Star" though is how much input the viewer has into who will move on in the competition. The show is being pitched as the audience getting the 'final say' in real time.
The "Timber" singer spoke with Ryan Seacrest about the new show and fan voting sharing, "It is a singing show ... it is kind of amazing and genius and revolutionary, which is the reason I was drawn to work with them," she explains. "They use apps. You just download an app, it's free, and then America gets to vote and it's instantly gratifying. There's no waiting for the results. You know in two minutes and thirty seconds if a contestant makes it or breaks it. And everybody at home can press yes or no. It's so easy and so simple, and yet so genius using technology to the fullest."
The judges each get 7% of the vote to decide if the contestant will continue on in the competition or be sent home. "I just vote the same way that you guys vote," Kesha shares. "Once they go through, then we get to talk to them and mentor them and kind of bring out the best in them and help explain what to do."
Do you think "Rising Star" has what it takes to compete with shows like "The Voice" who have taken over from "American Idol" and "The X Factor?"
Tune in to the "Rising Star" when it premieres this Sunday on ABC at 9/8c.
