Spurs Defeat Heat in Game 5 in Blow Out to Win 2014 NBA Championship
Game 5 of the NBA Finals started out with a different feel than the previous games as the Heat finally got out to a hot start and went up on the Spurs 22-5 in the first quarter led by Lebron James.
However, after the Spurs gathered themselves, they completely took over the momentum of the game, captured the lead and pushed to a 20 point advantage by the fourth quarter. The Spurs were led by Kawhi Leonard who had 22 points and 10 rebounds and was named MVP of the series after the game.
The Spurs ended up winning three straight games to win their fifth NBA championship, ending the Heat's two-year title reign and avenging the loss against the Heat in the Finals last year. San Antonio added this title to the ones the Spurs won in 1999, 2003, '05 and '07. Tim Duncan and coach Gregg Popovich have been with the team for all 5 championships and Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili have now won four NBA championships together was the 'Big Three.'
A year after their heartbreaking seven-game defeat, their only loss in six Finals appearances, the Spurs won four routs to deny Miami's quest for a third straight championship.
LeBron James again led Miami with 31 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Now, the focus will shift all attention to which team James will play for in the upcoming 2014-15 NBA Season. There will be plenty of teams that he could go to, including the Lakers, Bulls, Knicks and Cavs. President Pat Rily will do everything to keep him in a Heat uniform.
