Mark Wahlberg Asks Forgiveness from God for Starring in “Inappropriate Movies”
“Transformers: The Dark Knight” actor Mark Wahlberg recently opened up about asking forgiveness from God, particularly for starring in films that he consider “inappropriate.” These include “Boogie Nights” in which he played the role of a porn star.
Wahlberg was recently in attendance at an event in Chicago, where he shared insights about his career choices in the past, as reported by Chicago Tribune.
"I just always hope that God is a movie fan and also forgiving," the father-of-four told Chicago, Inc. "Because I've made some poor choices in my past."
When asked whether there were any films he regrets doing, Wahlberg pointed towards “Boogie Nights” being “up there at the top of the list.”
The Boston native plays the character of Dirk Diggler in “Boogie Nights”; the film follows Dirk’s career in the porn industry from the 1970s to the 1980s.
Wahlberg also shared his experience of pouncing on two men, on separate incidents, in 1988 that resulted to his imprisonment. He was only 16. Later on, the actor was forgiven for his crimes. Going to jail as a teenager, Wahlberg believes it was a “wake-up call” for him.
“A lot of people go to God when they get into trouble. When I heard the jail doors close behind me ... I knew that was just the beginning for me,” he shared, while adding: "I feel remorse when I've made mistakes. If I could go back and change a lot of things that I did, I would. I look for ways to give back."
According to Wahlberg, he has never been ashamed of opening up about his past along with the wrong choices he made, such as having connections to gangs and being imprisoned as a teenager. He believes young people can identify with him on certain levels, hence his motivation to help these individuals as much as he can.
"It's one thing to give money, or to start programs, but to be there and be able to talk to them, and tell them there is someone who has been through the same things they are going through and was able to turn their life around, and turn it into a big positive. That's always important," the former model emphasized.
Wahlberg's attendance at the Chicago event with Cardinal Blasé Cupich on Friday was intended to reach out towards young people and encourage them to go to church. The actor previously acknowledged his faith and relationship with God for helping him set off a highly successful career, including nods at the Oscars and Golden Globes.
"I never would have been able to change my life and have the success and love that I have in my world today without my faith," he shared.
