The Muppets Provide A Moment Of Lightness In Live Show At The Hollywood Bowl

Here's a bright spot to begin your week. The Muppets, yes those adorable characters that you were likely raised with, recently did a live-action show at The Hollywood Bowl and it was pretty fantastic. Until now the lovable characters have limited their appearances to television and film. The appeal of doing a full-length live Muppet show was too great of an opportunity to pass up and so lucky ticket holders were treated to amazing performances by Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Gonzo, The Swedish Chef and more.
Debbie McClellan, head of the Muppets Studio at Disney and has been with the franchise for 26 years explained in a recent interview,
"We've done smaller events, and I think when we did Outside Lands last year in San Francisco with the Electric Mayhem, these characters were received so well. People love to go and have that real-time experience now with a crowd. 'The Bachelor' - I mean, grown men are lining up to take pictures with these characters. (The Muppets) make people laugh and remember moments that they had with their family. It's pretty amazing that people still have that reaction to them."
The Muppets have been entertaining audiences for nearly sixty years which means that most of us were not only raised with them, we've also shared them with our own children as well. A creation of Jim Henson, who died in 1990, the Muppets are always producing their own variety show, within the show.
Doing a live show did produce its' own set of challenges and at some points performers in black leotards can be seen helping to bring the puppets to life. The truth is, back in the early days Jim Henson was often seen voicing Kermit the Frog and no one cared. The same nonchalance seems to be at work with this show. As long as the Muppets are doing their thing, people are entertained and happy.
