Nat Geo Greenlights 2nd Season of Emmy-Nominated THE STORY OF GOD with Morgan Freeman

National Geographic Channel announced today the greenlight of a second season of its Emmy-nominated hit series, The Story of God with Morgan Freeman. From executive producers Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary and James Younger of Revelations Entertainment, the first season of the series quickly became the network's most-watched series of all time when it premiered this past spring.
Hailed as "fascinating" by the Wall Street Journal and "eye-opening" by MediaPost, the first season earned a 2016 Emmy award nomination for Outstanding Informational Series or Special. The new episodes of the series will again take viewers on a trip around the world in search of answers to some of the great questions of the universe through the lens of the world's major religions, science, anthropology and archaeology.
The Story of God with Morgan Freeman will air globally in early 2017 on National Geographic Channels in 171 countries in 45 languages, and in Spanish on Nat Geo Mundo. The first season is available now on Digital HD to own and is coming soon on DVD.
The new season of the show will explore topics including "Is There a Chosen One?" "Proof of God" and "Heaven and Hell." For more information on The Story of God with Morgan Freeman, visit www.natgeotv.com or our press room at FoxFlash.com, or follow us on Twitter using @NGC_PR.
"Viewers around the globe responded in incredible ways to the first season of The Story of God, and we could not be happier to be teaming up once again with Morgan, Lori and James at Revelations to bring audiences more of what they love," said Tim Pastore, NGC president of original programming and production. "This series is emblematic of the type of programming National Geographic Channel will continue to bring to the table - shows not only with great creative talent, but also that are thought-provoking and insightful."
"I had quite a journey last season, but not just in miles covered," said Freeman. "I met incredible people who opened my eyes and my mind to new ideas and new ways of thinking about faith, the world and all of humanity. I barely scratched the surface of what we can learn, and I'm looking forward to continuing this search for the meaning of life and religion and everything in between."
In addition to being National Geographic Channel's most-watched series of all time, the April 3, 2016, series premiere was NGC's fourth-most-watched telecast of all time. The series was also one of the network's most buzzy shows ever online and on social media. On the evening of the premiere, the show site (natgeotv.com/storyofgod) generated 31 percent more traffic than the daily visitor average, and over the course of the run it received 1.06 million unique visitors and 2.5 million page views. On social platforms it was the most socially engaged shows across the network ever, reaching more than 150 million impressions across all of National Geographic's social accounts. Social sentiment was overwhelmingly positive, and raves included "fascinating & insightful new series," "awesome" and "speechless."
The Story of God with Morgan Freeman is produced by Revelations Entertainment for National Geographic Channel. For Revelations Entertainment, Morgan Freeman, Lori McCreary and James Younger are executive producers. For National Geographic Channel, Michael J. Miller is executive producer; Kevin Tao Mohs is vice president, production and development; and Tim Pastore is president, original programming and production.
